Look Out!

Mark Your Calendar
Sunday, April 13, 2036 is the day that Asteroid 99942 Apophis is scheduled to hit the earth. But don't panic, there is a 1 in 5,560 chance that it will miss. Feel better now?

You have an amusing blog going here, John.

I'm wondering if you deliberately turned the "miss/hit" statistics around for the asteroid Apophis.

I think it's actually 1 chance in 5560 that it will hit in 2036, because the asteroid of most concern now, Near-Earth Asteroid 2004 MN4 has, from what I can see, the highest score on the Hazard Scale, and the chance of it hitting earth is 1 in 300.

But you made me look. (But if I'm wrong, I obviously haven't looked closely enough.)

Just as you loved perusing people's musical choices, I love to see the links and interests people have.

I always learn something. It's such a big world.

I'm going to have to come back to that post of yours on digital music and read the article.

That's a world I've never explored - not enough time, different priorities - but when I slow down, I love music.

Maybe it's just as well I never explored Napster. I could be in legal trouble now, with my lack of acumen.

Seriously though, I really have to get music back in my life again.

Every life needs a soundtrack, right?

Thanks for the links, info and laughs.

I checked out the article and saved it.

So glad I did since the NY Times archives everything after 14 days.

Too many times I've gone back looking for something to be faced with paying $3.95 to retrieve it.

And by the way, I don't appreciate that the Op-Eds are now a subscription only read, either.

I appreciate that all newspapers are decreasing in circulation and are looking for ways to increase income. If it's pay or lose the New York Times, well, then there's not much choice, we have to pay.

But this piecemeal approach just with the op-eds excludes a lot of worthwhile thinking and opinions from the general public who might, otherwise, read it.
